From Toddler to Tango-Dancer…

Anna Deibele’s love of dance dates back to her childhood. She began dancing competitively (Standard and Latin ballroom dancing) at the age of 11 – and so began a dancing career. At 19, in Berlin, Anna Deibele discovered her passion for the Argentine tango. During her year studying abroad in Madrid she dedicated herself with greater intensity to Tango Nuevo, under Argentinian tango masters.

In a great number of workshops, major tango festivals, international tango marathons and a six-week stay in Argentina in early 2009 to participate in CITA (International Congress of Argentine Tango), Anna Deibele was able to perfect her tango technique with tango stars such as Mariano Chicho Frumboli and Juana Sepúlveda, Adrian Veredice and Alejandra Hobert, Moira Castellano and Gaston Torelli, Horacio Godoy and many others. She developed her own personal touch in both milonguero-style tango’s close embrace and in dynamic Tango Nuevo.

Current Projects

Her love for Argentine tango led Anna Deibele to study ballet, modern dance, contact improvisation, modern jazz, hip hop and salsa for several years. Yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi complete the line-up. Intensive physical training enables her to better understand the physical and psychological properties that are unique to dancers; this understanding helps her to work in harmony with body, soul, and the laws of physics.

In summer 2008 she began to teach her first Argentine tango courses at tanzbasis Berlin. Other teaching assignments at the HU and TU Unisport followed, as well as at Ballhaus Walzerlinksgestrickt, a dance school for tango, ballroom, salsa and swing dancing in Berlin.

Certified in dance pedagogy as an independent instructor, Anna Deibele currently teaches group courses in Argentine tango for beginning and intermediate dancers, as well as thematic workshops and private lessons.

In 2009 Anna Deibele acquired a profound understanding of dance pedagogy through the one-year “Seneca Intensive” program (IBT e.V.) at the DOCK11 & Eden Studios Berlin, with instructors from the State Ballet School of Berlin, the Palucca University of Dance Dresden and the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art, among others.

In early 2010 she deepened her knowledge of dance pedagogy with Prof. Martin Puttke, the former artistic director of ballet at the State Opera Berlin and the Aalto Ballet Theater Essen, during a two-month program called “Special Methodology: Classic Dance after DANAMOS.”

Showbiz Experience

As a show dancer, Anna Deibele makes regular appearances at events, and has danced for TV, film and music videos such as Andreas Dresen’s film “Whisky mit Wodka (Whiskey with Vodka),” the 3sat vivo production “Tango ist getanzte Leidenschaft (Tango is the Dance of Passion)” and the official VIVA/MTV music video for the song “Power of Love” by Frank Dellé, one of the Seeed front men.

The Role of Music

Since early childhood, intensive engagement with music has complemented Anna Deibele’s passion for dance. She had her first appearance onstage at the age of seven with a piano concerto for four hands by Joseph Haydn. During her 15 years total of education in classical piano with the concert pianist Madalina Pasol de Martin, among others, she competed successfully in regional and national piano competitions like “Jugend musiziert (Youth Making Music)”, the Schubert piano competition in Leipzig, and the “Kleiner Schumann-Wettbewerb (Junior Schumann Competition)”, and won several first and second prizes in the categories of “piano solo” and “piano duet with a string instrument”. As a complement to piano, Anna Deibele has occupied herself for several years with classical guitar and popular/jazz singing. Her musical background helps her to integrate music into dance as a solid building block.
